slang for when someone tries to dress something up, but is still that something. usually used on ugly broads, when they put on a skirt and some lipstick and well, they still look like the same digusting pig.

Sarah Palin. Barack meant something else when he said it, but this comment is a spot-on summary of her campaign and political career.
She may be an ex-beauty queen, but this porker's record is as ugly and dirty as they come. Google "Anne Kilkenny" for the gruesome details.
God help us all if that woman becomes VP (and let's face it, she's really running for president as McCain has not just a foot but most of his body in the grave already). You can put lipstick on a pig, but she'll still be a piss-poor candidate.

a) overkill, when people go over and/or beyond their call of duty or responsibilities, or beyond acceptable socio -moral boundaries when doing something.
b) when people, for whatever reason, go out on a limb, and propose, for their zeitgeist, extremely novel, eccentric, living underwater type ideas for the improvement and/or regeneration of their society
a) I support capital punishment as a principle for certain crimes and under certain conditions, and will not, under any circumstances, go lipstick on a pig and reject the principle of capital punishment itself because I hate lethal injection or lethal gas as a method of execution; or, I might reject the use of capital punishment for a specific case; the moral of the fable is, do not go lip lipstick on a pig and betray your own moral principles.
b) The Philosophes, people such a Rousseau, Diderot, Voltaire and Montesquieu, among others, did indeed go lipstick on a pig between the death of Louis XIV and The American Revolution and accidentally ushered in The French Enlightenment

A horrible, sexist smear against female Vice Presidential candidates, especially when used following a sentence that has nothing to do with said Vice Presidential candidate.

A term used by many, generally in reference to someone who may be trying to make something or someone look appealing or attractive when it quite clearly will not work, or will only deceive the dumbest of people.
Car salesmen are generally good at "putting lipstick on a pig" because they are always selling unroadworthy buckets of shit and try and hide their shitfulness by tarting them up.
The dude in that car yard just put a body kit on that piece of shit. Talk about putting lipstick on a pig
