Reach out

A sort of sweet-talking, cliche term used by temp agencies and other employers to give you the impression they have some particular vested emotional interest in helping you, when really they are just screwing you over.

Temp Agency Recruiter: "I just wanted to reach out to you and invite you to take time out of your day to come down here for an interview."

Recruitee: "Is this because you think you may have a job available I'm qualified for?"

Recruiter thinks in response: "No, in fact the chances that I will place you are less than 5%, but I benefit personally from having as many qualified people in my database as possible and so therefore I thought I'd reach-out to you and waste your time."

reach out

This has become the new clichรฉ for yuppie types or any pseudo-intellectual types or just idiots that think it sounds special. It is simply just another way of saying: contact, call, speak to, notify, etc. It really sounds faggy and flags the speaker as being self conscious about how they sound to their peers. You also have to wonder who they think they're impressing when they speak like they have an Emily Post book on etiquette shoved up their ass.

Bruce: I'm going to 'reach out' to Bill today.

Tom: Hey Bruce, why do you always insist on talking like a fag?! That little homily won't hide the fact that your a douche-bag.

Reach Out

To contact a person (usually a friend you've not seen for some time, or an acquaintance that you don't see often), where there would be no other reason for such contact, for the specific purpose of obtaining a favour, or extending them a favour upon you hearing that they were in need.

You are a police officer, and you hear that a friend of yours has been arrested by a department that you used to work within for something that you feel is unlikely they did. You may decide to 'reach out' to someone that still works there, but whom you've not seen in many years, to see if there is any way you can help sort out the mess.

reach out

An unfortunately creepy term that is means "to contact" or similar. Brings to mind grasping and undesirable contact from strangers.

1) Charles, please reach out to Jane and provide her the information she requires. 2) My (political) campaign will reach out to every voter.

reach out

A phrase that inherently implies the person being reached out to has distanced themselves from the reacher or the world.

People who post on Urban Dictionary and swear or trash-talk simultaneously reach out to the audience while distancing themselves from a perceived threat, supplanting their fear with anger in a somewhat conflicted cyclic redundancy.

reach out

To connect with, open up to, bridge the gap.

Tomorrow doesn't promise out reach because no one knows if tomorrow is even real.

You are going to have to reach out to me if anything is going to happen.
