The Yard

The quad or general outdoor gathering place on a college campus, particularly a historical black college.

I'll meet y'all out on the yard after class.

There's going to be a step show on the yard after the game.

The Yard

Refers to Barneys tavern in London, Ontario. The Friday night crowds from the University of Western Ontario are infamous. The house band plays all the favourites as students toast the end of a long week.

From Barneys --> Barnyards --> The Yard

"What are you saying tonight?"
"I'm thinking The Yard."
"I hear that."
"Pre-drinks?"
"I'm in."

Yard

The ultimate word that can be substituted for any word in any sentence at any time and still preserve the original meaning but add a deeper level of meaning and nuance that was not present in the original sentence.

I got yarded last night. I’ve got to yard some work real quick. I’m going to yarding over in a bit.
