Being banksy or doing something banksy means comitting an "outrageous" act that you think is highly rebellious and counterculture but is in fact banal, sanitized and/or monetized. Quite often if you see the word "edgy" used unironically, it will be referring to a banksy act.
Comes from the street artist Banksy, whose entire portfolio can be conveniently described with this adjective.

Perhaps the greatest stencil artist ever he parades his works around Britain quite illegally. He defaces monuments, spray paints animals and generally bugs people off.
